…You never know what you’re going to get, and this especially applies to our dear Avalanche. Forrest Gump, you are too wise. Tonight we certainly had the caramel filled chocolate, unfortunately we have had too many nasty fruit filled chocolates of late. Each night, we can never be sure what we are going to get, or even what we'll get on each shift.
I'm sure Mama meant that to mean to put last season and last month behind us.
After the second period, things were looking to go the way most of our games go: we get a goal, have the momentum and then the opposing team scores. We get a couple of good chances, but it just isn’t there. Praise the Hockey Gods that that wasn’t the case tonight.
Duchene finally capitalized on some opportunities and was able to double his goals this season, which isn’t that impressive since he only had one goal going into tonight’s game. One goal, pretty lackluster for one of our star players, but let’s hope that his dry spell is now over. The Avs performance through the opening month is enough to make any loyal fan cringe with despair. It would be one thing if we simply didn’t have the talent, but we do. I believe that we have the team that can truly compete, if only they actually did compete EVERY game. As McNab so astutely described it “they had been finding a way to lose, not finding a way to win”. Maybe one of my favorite things I’ve ever heard him say. I think one of the major takeaways from tonight’s game is that even though we allowed Calgary to tie the game, we were able to come back, and with a slid 6-3 victory against former Av coach, Bob Hartly.
As the ever hopeful fan, perhaps this is the game that we need to finally get a fire under our a** and actually play like the team we can be, rather than the pathetic excuse for a hockey club that we have been playing like. If the Avs give us the gooey, overly sweet cherry filled crap on Friday night vs. the Rangers, I might just have to throw the chocolates straight onto the ice. Actually... let’s be honest, I’m more likely to throw something at a Ranger fan. Here’s to hoping for a caramel, toffee or nut filled Ferraro Roche kind of season from now on.*
*For anyone who cares, my actual favorite kind of chocolate is Frans from Seattle.
