As my little brother so poetically likes to call out at games, “Get off your knees ref, you’re blowing the game!” The Avs went into the second period of tonight’s game against the Penguins leading 1-0 after a late 1st period power play goal, but after a questionable hi-sticking penalty on Beauchemin, the Pens were quick to score 4-4. The momentum immediately shifted and Pittsburg scored 3 goals in just over 2 minutes: one 4-4, one 5-4, and one 5-5. Talk about one call changing the game.
The Avs were not able to come back after allowing the three unanswered goals, but they did make it a fight to the finish by scoring with under two minutes left. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be enough, and the Avs would fall 3-4.
I can’t help but feel dejected after tonight’s disappointing loss. It was a game we could have won, but miscommunication, bad bounces and overall bad luck prevented us from getting the W. We are a quarter of the way through the season, and things aren’t good. Our division is too competitive to be losing these types of games. I'm honestly too upset to even write more about tonight's game.
But I like to leave things on a positive note, so here are my three takeaways from tonight’s game. One, we didn’t give up when it was 1-3. We had a couple of solid PKs that allowed us to stay in the game, and fought down to the final seconds of the game. Two, Minnesota lost, so that is always a positive. And three, Crosby’s Movember Mustache literally makes me cringe. I mean look at his picture, you know I’m right. I recently even heard it referred to as a “poop stache”. We might have lost, but I would take Landy, Dutchy and Natty Mac any day over “Poop Stache Crosby”.
