My brother and I at the Burgundy and White game
Well, after attending the Avs’ Burgundy and White scrimmage last week, and from the four preseason games played, there can be five things that sum up what I’ve noticed thus far.
1. I’ve been quite impressed with the professional try-out, Jack Skille. Not only is his name fun to say, but turns out he does have some skill on the ice ta boot. Maybe after already having a taste of the NHL, he knows what he has to do make the cut.
Additionally, I haven’t seen too much of the young new Finn, but I like the looks of Mikko Ratanen Already dubbed ‘Ratigan’ by my dad for all you Great Mouse Detective fans out there. Now, Ratanen certainly isn’t the bad guy, but at 6’4 he has the domineering presence on the ice that can’t help but be noticed.
2. I said it last year, and looks like I’m saying it again, but our power play needs work. I don’t even think there is more that can be said about that.
Because Mark the Shark (aka my dad) would feel left out if I didn't put this picture from the game up too.
3. The debut of the new 3-3 OT is interesting, and I am still unsure how I feel about it. First of all, it is really going to fix the problem of teams sitting back in the 3rd to make to overtime to get the extra point? I don’t really see that happening. And secondly, watching the team go down to 3-3 where it will most likely be going back and forth where if one team doesn’t capitalize on one chance the other team will, could quite possibly be a huge let down after a long 60 minute even match. (But I guess any loss is a let down...) As my friend Chris so astutely suggested, it would be more fun to have a full 5 minutes of 3-3 where it wasn’t sudden death, and then if it was still tied after that then it went to a shoot out. Imagine those back to back 5 minutes!
4. Unfortunately, I am a little bit nervous about our offense with only 1 goal in the last three games is a bit worrisome… But with Bordeleau, Cliche, and Redmond all being sent down to the AHL after the most resent cuts, who knows what will happen in the regular season.
Ketchup, BBQ, ranch and buffalo!
5. And most importantly, since it is preseason, and I am not confined to my game time pizza tradition, I was able to walk about and try out other options. My best friend and I both opted for the chicken tenders. While they were just your typical tenders, the option of sauces is quite impressive. I would highly recommend. For better or worse, it is all pizza from here on out.
