Well, it is old news by now, but the Avalanche have hired AHL coach, Jared Bednar as the new Avalanche head coach. Bednar won the American Hockey League Championship Calder Cup last season with the Lake Erie Monsters. Bednar was gearing up to defend his team's title this season, when the Avs came calling. The native Saskatchewan never made it into the NHL during his playing career, but played nine seasons in the minor leagues, and won two championships. Since beginning his coaching career, Bednar has had his focus towards entering the NHL.
Sakic commented, “I like the way his teams play. I think it suits and fits with how we play. We have a fast forward group and that up-tempo, pressure game all over the ice is, first of all exciting, and it will suit our team.” Yea, I’d say he should fit right and be used to our type of play, seeing as we played like an AHL team most of the last two seasons.
Personally, I’m still mourning the loss of Roy, and feeling rather indifferent about who our coach is at this point. I’m truly going to miss our charismatic leader who brought so much passion to the team. However, I suppose I need to put on my big girl pants and get over the fact already. What’s done is done, and all I can do is hope that Sakic is right, and that Bednar will be the good fit that he believes him to be.
