Remember me? My name is Sam and I'm an Avid Avaholic

Alright, so I may have slipped off the blog wagon for a skosh. But really, can you blame me? I don’t think I need to sum up our colossal fail to make the playoffs so I won’t even bother.

The playoffs are over, and while I was pleased that the three teams I wanted out of the playoffs the most (the Wild, Wings and Hawks, obviously) all tapped out in the first round, I found it does make it harder to get invested in the rest of the playoffs. That being said, Turd Crosby has once again hoisted the Cup, and that means we can finally get down to talking about things that we actually care about: the Avalanche.

Here is the short and sweet of Avalanche happenings this week:

Mark your calendars for October 15th. The Avalanche will host the Dallas Stars for the first game of the season at Pepsi Center. It will be the latest full season start date in franchise history, and they will only have two home games the entire month. The rest of the season’s schedule can be seen on the Avalanche website.

The first round of the draft will be held on Friday night in Buffalo, with fellow American, Auston Matthews, projected to go in the first round to Toronto. The following rounds will be held on Saturday, with Avalanche having the 10th pick.

And finally, it is with a heavy heart that today we traded Reto Berra for Rocco Grimaldi of the Florida Panthers. Maybe it his dashing Swiss looks, his fun nickname, “Yogi Berra”, that he was a pretty decent goaltender, or the fact that I got to meet him and watch my boss explain the rules of craps to him in German, but whatever the reason I for one am sad to see him go. At 23, Grimaldi, made his NHL debut with the Panthers in 2014. The Cali native played in 20 games last season, and had a total of five points.

However sad I am about the departure of Berra, I am happy to see that the Avs have started to make moves. If Roy wants the Avs to be the competitive team that we all know he strives for, they need to make some serious changes. I am sick of the not bad, but not good enough team we have been for the last two years, hell, the last decade for that matter. But one thing is for sure, I’m glad that we finally have something worth even talking about now, and wish all the best for Berra in Florida.
